Fifty young entrepreneurs awarded start-up grants
Fifty graduates of the enterprise training programme each received N300,000 to start or grow a business, selected from an intake that began with more than a thousand applicants.
Fifty young entrepreneurs from Rivers, Bayelsa and Delta States were each awarded N300,000, approximately US$1,800 at the time, to start or grow their own businesses. The grants were presented at an awards ceremony in Port Harcourt.
How the fifty were selected
The intake shows the shape of the funnel the programme runs:
- More than 1,000 young graduates applied
- 300 were selected for intensive enterprise training
- 50 went on to receive start-up funding
The training covered the practical skills needed to start and run a business, and the grants went to those who completed it and presented the strongest cases.
Where this sits now
This award round ran under the programme's previous name and sponsorship, before the transition from SPDC. The structure it established, competitive selection followed by training and then capital, carries into NRiSE. Details of funding available to the first NRiSE cohort will be published with the application round.
