NRiSE: Nigerian Renaissance Initiative for Sustainable Enterprise
Young Nigerians taking part in a regional enterprise development programme
About the programme

About NRiSE

A national enterprise development initiative for young Nigerians who want to build something of their own.

NRiSE (Nigerian Renaissance Initiative for Sustainable Enterprise) is a transformative youth enterprise development programme designed to address some of the most pressing challenges facing communities today, including unemployment, income insecurity, inequality, and social exclusion. The programme contributes to realizing community aspirations by empowering young people with the skills, resources, and opportunities needed to build sustainable livelihoods and successful businesses.

Why NRiSE exists

Nigeria has no shortage of business ideas. What it has too little of is structured support in the months between having an idea and trading sustainably, the period when most new enterprises fail. NRiSE concentrates on exactly that window.

The initiative builds on more than two decades of youth enterprise development in Nigeria. Following the transition from SPDC, that work continues under NNPC and Renaissance stewardship as NRiSE, with the same focus on practical support delivered locally, and a renewed commitment to reaching entrepreneurs beyond the major cities.

Who the programme is for

  • Young Nigerians with a business idea they are ready to act on
  • Owners of early-stage businesses that need structure to grow
  • Trainers and business development professionals who want to deliver the programme in their own communities

Full eligibility criteria are published with each application round.

How it works

Four stages of support, from first idea to first contracts.

  1. Train

Structured business training covering planning, costing, record-keeping, marketing and compliance, delivered by accredited local trainers.

  2. Mentor

Each participant is paired with an experienced business mentor for the months that matter most: the first year of trading.

  3. Formalise

Practical help with registration, tax identification and the paperwork that lets a small business win larger contracts.

  4. Grow

Introductions to finance providers, market linkages and supplier opportunities so businesses can scale beyond survival.
